Funny Farm

Wine tasting at Napa Valley today

Breakfast was a "Ground Beef Sandwich" with sauteed mushrooms, swiss cheese and bacon with garlic fries at a restaurant in Sausalito, a town just north of San Francisco. Although excellent, it didn't quite make the "World's Best" grade.

At Domaine Carneros, we tasted two Pinot Noirs and a Merlot and I got sunstroke. Nice fat almonds to cleanse the palette.

As we drove up the road, a neighbouring trucker told us about Sattui, where you can " Drink for nothin' "
Unable to resist a freebie, and after that fourteen dollar rip-off, lacking in remorse, we ignored all other wineries en route.
Three fruity whites followed by the best selling Gamay Rouge (effectively strawberry juice with a kick), a Merlot, a Zinfandel and a couple of dessert wines. The last one had cognac in it and was really good, but we settled for a bottle of red and strawberry.

Then it was onward to Sonoma to meet Alex's budding cuz Russell. I knew Alex from New York, where we worked together. He then moved to Santa Cruz, but when I got in touch with him, he'd moved to Australia. Still he put us in touch with Russell, seeing as we were going to the Sonoma area, who met us in the main square. We were expecting someone of Alex's age, but Russell rocked up all white haired and mad professory.

He led us to the funny farm, where he offered us a glass of water. "Oh this glass looks clean".
Angie respectfully turned down his offer, but Anton and I accepted. Angie then turned my attention to the bathroom, where there was a yellow puddle on the floor. The glass of water was immediately emptied in the sink and set aside on the kitchen counter. Unfortunately we weren't able to subliminally prise Anton out of his conversation and alert him to the hygeine situation - we instead had to watch with slow motion horror as he drank the bacterial soup.

Russell showed us this enormous agave cactus growing outside along with some other herbal remedies around the Funny Farm. Then a friend turned up with a truck and some dogs, and we left.
